Successful ALA Leader Attributes
Leadership is the foundation for all organizations. Leaders set high standards for themselves and are an example to those they expect to lead. ALA leaders are ambassadors of the Association and should strive to reflect the highest standards of leadership excellence through the following attributes: strategic alignment; vision/strategic stewardship; respectful communication; inclusive collaboration; passion for ALA; reliability and compsure; and balance. Effective leaders are also expected to mentor others to develop and exemplify these attributes as they become future leaders.

Ability to understand the broader context of the work and contribute ideas aligned with ALA’s direction and goals.
