On-Site Associates

With more than 35 years of experience supporting Am Law 50 and 100 firms, On-Site Associates understands the challenges of achieving optimal realization from A/R and WIP portfolios.

As firms grow, deployment of staff resources should be reassessed to avoid what we refer to as the “20/80 trap,” where a relatively small number of unacceptably aged balances require a disproportionate share of the internal team’s attention.

On-Site Associates supplements internal efforts by working in the name of your firm on a select portfolio of balances where advancing resolution requires a new dynamic and specialized skill set.

This allows your team to focus on supporting attorneys, actively managing relationships, and driving incremental improvement in days-outstanding metrics—while On-Site accelerates conversion of your most challenging balances into realized income, without increasing your firm’s headcount or fixed costs.

4 SERVICES

1) Law Firm Receivables Resolution

On-Site Associates provides specialized receivables resolution services to law firms seeking to improve realization on complex, unacceptably aged, and time-intensive accounts. We work as an extension of your internal collections function—in the name of your firm—to resolve select active, inactive, and departed attorney balances identified by you, while preserving client relationships and adhering to firm governance standards.

We know that even the most disciplined firms encounter receivables that fall outside standard collection protocols. Over time, these balances tie up capital, reduce visibility into true realization, and require a level of sustained attention that can be difficult to maintain internally.

Our model is designed to extend internal capacity precisely where it becomes constrained—allowing firms to focus internal resources on active clients and improving metrics such as Days Fees Outstanding, while we assume responsibility for accounts that could use a fresh perspective.

Our approach is focused on resolution—not simply collection. Through disciplined internal and external diligence, clear presentation of the full factual record, and persistent, professional follow-up, we work to achieve meaningful outcomes on accounts where prior efforts have reached their practical limit.

All strategies are developed in alignment with firm protocols and are pre-approved by the responsible attorney, ensuring consistency with client expectations and firm standards.

Engagements are typically structured on a contingency basis, providing a cost-effective solution that improves cash flow without adding headcount or fixed overhead.

We operate independently of internal dynamics, bringing objectivity, renewed momentum, and specialized expertise to accounts that require a more concentrated and nuanced approach.

Why Firms Engage On-Site

  • Enhanced Resource Deployment & Full Portfolio Coverage
Internal teams remain focused on the majority portion of the portfolio, while On-Site assumes responsibility for assigned balances – typically the oldest portfolio balances and those most resistant to resolution. This ensures no portion of the firm’s A/R or WIP portfolio is left unaddressed.
  • Improved Cash Flow
We convert underperforming receivables into cash through a disciplined, professional approach that preserves client relationships.
  • Resolution—Not Just Collection
We are focused on resolving balances—not simply pursuing payment—by identifying underlying issues that contribute to account delinquencies and providing actionable insights to firm management.
  • Attorney-Aligned Control
All recommended strategies are developed within firm protocols and are pre-approved by the responsible attorney. Any proposed resolution outside of On-Site’s preset authority is elevated to leadership for approval.
  • Specialized Expertise
Decades of experience working with Am Law 50 and 100 law firms and their clientele enable effective engagement on complex, sensitive receivables.
  • Cost-Effective Engagement Model
As a contingency-based resource, we enhance collections performance without adding headcount or fixed overhead.
  • Objective, Firm-Aligned Execution
We operate solely in the best interests of the firm, bringing objectivity, consistency, and renewed momentum to stalled accounts.

2) Diagnostic Review & Procedural Development (Client/Matter Intake & Collections)

On-Site Associates provides consulting services to law firms seeking to strengthen financial performance through more effective client/matter intake, credit risk assessment, and internal collection processes.

We conduct a comprehensive diagnostic review of the firm’s existing procedures, organizational structure, and resource deployment—identifying areas where refinement can improve cash flow, enhance realization, and reduce financial risk.

Our assessments may be conducted firmwide or focused on specific areas requiring improvement, depending on the firm’s priorities.

Scope of Review

Our analysis typically includes:

  • Client/Matter Intake & Credit Risk Evaluation
Review of intake procedures, financial due diligence, and credit risk assessment protocols.
  • Internal Collections Processes & Resource Deployment
Assessment of follow-up practices, escalation protocols, and allocation of staff resources.
  • Approval Authority & Resolution Policies
Review of policies governing write-offs, write-downs, payment plans, and settlement approvals.
  • Stop-Work Review & Risk Mitigation Protocols
Review of stop-work procedures to control excessive receivables investment levels and minimize risk of write-offs.
  • Systems & Technology Utilization
Assessment of billing and collections system capabilities and process integration.

Deliverables & Implementation Support

Following our review, we provide a comprehensive report outlining findings and practical, prioritized recommendations tailored to the firm’s operational structure and financial objectives.

Where appropriate, we assist with:

  • Development of enhanced intake and collections policies
  • Alignment of procedures with firm growth and profitability goals
  • Implementation support for new or revised processes
  • Training and guidance for internal collections personnel

Approach

Our recommendations are grounded in decades of experience working with thriving Am Law 50 and 100 law firms, as well as 17 firms undergoing dissolution or bankruptcy. Our goal is to deliver recommendations that are both practical and implementable within existing firm structures. We focus on creating sustainable improvements that enhance cash flow, strengthen financial controls, and support long-term performance.

3) Collector Workshops & Training

On-Site Associates provides in-house workshops and training seminars designed to enhance the effectiveness of in-house law firm collection teams. These sessions are led by our founder, George Abodeely, drawing on decades of experience resolving complex law firm receivables.

Our training is grounded in the practical realities of the law firm environment—where successful collections require not only technical skill, but the ability to work effectively with attorneys, navigate internal dynamics, and manage sensitive client relationships.

Training Focus

Through an interactive, case-based format, participants develop the skills necessary to:

  • Prepare for Attorney Portfolio Reviews
Structure and present receivables information in a way that supports productive attorney engagement and decision-making.
  • Communicate Effectively
Strengthen both written and verbal communication with attorneys and clients, with an emphasis on clarity, professionalism, and persuasion.
  • Resolve Balances—Not Just Collect
Apply a resolution-oriented approach that addresses underlying issues and improves outcomes on challenging accounts.
  • Enhance Credibility with Attorneys
Position the collections function as a trusted, value-added resource within the firm.
  • Build Trust and Influence
Develop the judgment and interpersonal approach necessary to earn attorney confidence and cooperation.

Customized, Interactive Format

Each program is tailored to the firm’s specific needs. Prior to the workshop, participants are provided with a case study to review and submit anonymously. These submissions are used to shape the session content—ensuring the training is directly relevant to the firm’s portfolios, challenges, and team dynamics.

Attendees receive written materials for ongoing reference, reinforcing key concepts and supporting continued development beyond the session.

Approach

Our workshops are practical, interactive, and designed for immediate application. The focus is on equipping your internal collection team with the tools, techniques, and perspective needed to operate effectively within the unique structure and expectations of a law firm.

4) Law Firm Dissolution Services

On-Site Associates provides specialized receivables management services to law firms undergoing dissolution or wind-down, both in and out of bankruptcy. We are engaged to manage and resolve client receivables and work-in-process portfolios during periods of transition—when timing, coordination, and execution are critical to maximizing realization.

Seventeen (17) law firms have entrusted On-Site Associates with these responsibilities, including Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP—the largest law firm dissolution in U.S. history—reflecting deep experience in navigating the operational and financial complexities unique to these environments.

Key Elements of a Successful Dissolution Engagement

  • Early Intervention
The most effective outcomes are achieved when planning begins while key attorneys and staff remain in place and systems are fully operational. Early program design enables a more structured, coordinated, and efficient resolution process.
  • Retention of Key Personnel
Continuity across client accounting, IT, and records functions is essential. Retaining critical staff ensures the ability to convert WIP to A/R, maintain systems, manage client data, and support collections activity throughout the transition.
  • Professional Due Diligence
Maximizing realization requires a clear understanding of the dynamics of each practice group. We conduct targeted attorney outreach to gather critical background and identify the most effective resolution strategy. In many cases, receivables are tied to clients that continue with attorneys at new firms—creating a “competing for payment” dynamic that must be carefully managed.
  • Strategic Planning & Control
No two dissolutions are alike. We develop tailored, firm-specific resolution strategies that are aligned with our clients’ objectives—resulting in a more disciplined and effective execution.
  • Objective, Independent Execution
Dissolution environments introduce competing priorities and sensitivities. Our independent role allows us to approach each account with objectivity—balancing relationship considerations with the need to resolve outstanding balances.
  • Reporting & Transparency
We deliver comprehensive reporting on performance metrics and costs, providing clear visibility into project progress and ensuring full transparency.
  • Flexible, Performance-Based Engagement
Our services are typically structured on a contingency basis. Alternative fee structures can also be tailored based on portfolio size and composition.

Approach

Law firm dissolutions present a unique combination of operational disruption, client sensitivity, and financial urgency. Our approach is disciplined, coordinated, and informed by unmatched experience across more law firm dissolutions than any other provider—focused on maximizing recovery while maintaining professionalism and control throughout the process.
