Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that many of you will have questions regarding this in-person event. We have done our best to anticipate what some of those may be and have provided additional details here. Please direct any additional questions regarding educational sessions or event logistics to [email protected]. Questions regarding registration should be directed to [email protected]

Q: What health and safety measures have been put in place for this event?
A: CLI attendees and their guests (if applicable) will be required to:

  • Agree to and sign an assumption of risk and waiver of claims.
  • Wear a mask or face covering at all times during the event, except in limited settings such as during meals.
  • Avoid person-to-person contact such as handshakes, hugs, high-fives, etc.
  • Adhere to social distancing guidelines.
  • Submit a daily self-screening health questionnaire.

Any attendee refusing to comply with the above health and safety measures will not be granted access to the event, nor will any refunds or expense reimbursements be issued.

Q:  I need to cancel my registration. What is the refund policy?
A: We want to assure you that you can secure your place at the Chapter Leadership Institute, knowing that your investment will not be lost should your attendance no longer be possible due to the pandemic. As we are all facing uncertainty due to COVID-19, we will offer a no-fee cancellation option until June 29. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected]

If you elect to cancel your registration after June 29, a cancellation fee of $125 will be assessed.

In addition, should pandemic circumstances or local restrictions on gatherings/travel be imposed and the in-person 2021 Chapter Leadership Institute transitions to a fully virtual event, your registration will automatically be transferred to the virtual event.

Q: Is there a limit on the number of registrations being accepted for this event?
A: Yes, there is. Current guidelines require ALA to adhere to capacity limits that promote social distancing in our meeting space. Our hope is that those guidelines will become less restrictive as the summer goes on, but until then, ALA is limited in the number of registrations that can be accepted for this event. Therefore, registration for CLI will close on July 6 or when the capacity limit has been reached, whichever occurs first.

Updated based on current guidelines (5/27/21): St. Louis and the Hyatt have lifted capacity limits in light of the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This means that there is no longer a limit on the number of registrations that will be accepted for this event. The well-being and health of our attendees is our top priority; therefore, we remain committed to hosting a safe and socially distanced event.

Q: Will any of the sessions be recorded or live streamed?
A: CLI is an event that is highly subsidized by ALA and the event sponsors. As such, we are not able to provide session recordings or any hybrid/virtual component due to the high costs associated with those services.

As a reminder, CLI is just one of the many forums in which ALA provides its chapter leaders with training and networking opportunities. Chapters that registered to attend the Essentials of Chapter Leadership (held in March 2021) continue to have access to those session recordings, and all chapter leaders are invited to attend the monthly virtual sessions offered as part of the Chapter Leader Educational Series at no charge. Additionally, every chapter leader is encouraged to subscribe to the Chapter Leaders Discussion Forum where they can network and share ideas with other chapter leaders.

Q: Will session handouts be available?
A: Yes, handouts will be made available via the website and mobile app, though some handouts may not be provided until after the event.
