The Importance of Business Partner Relations
Creating Positive Professional Connections
Positive business partner relationships are vital to developing careers in legal management, to our employers and to the Association of Legal Administrators. Selecting the right products and services is an essential element of legal management. Business partner relationships are important connections and resources as we conduct our jobs, plan for the future, and build our knowledge about products, changes and trends. Building future business partner relationships can help us when a product or service changes or when an additional product or service is needed. Positive relationships with business partners also provide a way to enhance our profession within our communities.
Building the Relationship
Chapter activities that include business partners can enhance the process of building relationships while supporting both our professional and chapter goals. These activities provide the forum to be in touch with a number of business partners in addition to those we deal with on a firm basis. Business partners are important to our continuing education because they provide us with current product and service information, trend information and funding for chapter educational activities.
ALA's Business Partner Relations Project Team
The ALA Board of Directors recognizes the value of the relationships between business partners, administrators and ALA as an organization. In 1998, they created a Task Force to study the then current state of these inter-relationships. In 1999, the Board adopted the recommendations of that Task Force and created the Business Partner Relations Committee (now the Business Partner Relations Project Team). The Board charged this standing committee with further adding value to the partnership between ALA members and business partners. The committee works to facilitate communication, provide resources for feedback, and emphasizes the interdependence that exists among business partners, ALA members, their employers and the association at all levels.
Committee's Mission Statement
The mission of ALA’s Business Partner Relations Project Team is to further add value to the partnership between ALA members and business partners:
- Facilitate communication among business partners, ALA international members, ALA regions and ALA chapters;
- Provide resources for member/business partner feedback;
- Consult with ALA regional and chapter business partner committees to determine equitable value;
- Provide strategic input to ALA’s Board of Directors regarding the business partner market.
