What are the dates and location for ALA’s 2021 Annual Conference & Expo?
ALA’s 2021 Annual Conference & Expo will take place from Sunday, October 3, to Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. We are looking forward to celebrating ALA’s 50th Anniversary with all of you and will have many exciting event updates to share in the coming months. Please watch for messages in your inbox and on the conference website, alaannualconf.org.
Do I need to re-register for the 2021 Annual Conference & Expo if I was previously registered for the 2020 Annual Conference & Expo?
No, if you were registered for the 2020 Annual Conference & Expo and did not request a cancellation, then your registration has been automatically transferred to the new dates and location.
However, if you requested the cancellation of your 2020 registration, then you will need to register again for the 2021 Annual Conference & Expo.

We understand that travel and attendance at a conference may be uncertain. With that in mind, we are offering worry-free registration.
We want to assure you that you can secure a place at the Annual Conference & Expo knowing that your investment won’t be lost should in-person attendance no longer be possible due to the pandemic.
All paid conference registrations will have access to alternative attendance choices such as livestream participation, no-hassle substitutions or transfers to a future Annual Conference & Expo. As we are all facing uncertainty due to COVID-19, we will offer a no-fee cancellation option until June 25, 2021. In addition, should pandemic circumstances or local restrictions on gatherings/travel be imposed and the in-person 2021 ALA Annual Conference & Expo transitions to a fully virtual event, we will contact you with an update on your registration options.
If you elect to cancel your registration after June 25, the below cancellation fees and options will be assessed.

Cancellation notifications via social media (e.g., posting on our Facebook page or Twitter) are not accepted. No-shows and late cancellations forfeit the full registration fee.
Any requests for refunds of hotel room reservations booked through onPeak must go directly through onPeak by calling 312-527-7270. If hotel reservations were made outside the room block through the hotel or a third party, requests for refunds must go through those avenues.
A substitute from the registrant’s organization or chapter is subject to an administrative fee of $150. The substitute’s registration fee will be adjusted if a nonmember replaces an ALA member. Please submit a written request to [email protected] no later than September 10, 2021, for more information and processing.
When can I book my hotel reservations for the 2021 Annual Conference & Expo?
We ask for your patience to allow onPeak and our preferred hotel partners the time to properly set up the room block and reservation portal. We will be in touch with an update soon.
What measures will be put into place to protect the health and safety of attendees?
As we plan for an in-person event in October, the health, safety and well-being of our attendees remains our top priority. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. It is imperative that all registrants for the Annual Conference & Expo follow all instructions when attending the conference.
We have developed measures to ensure a safe environment for all attendees and will continue to monitor social distancing recommendations and the advice of health authorities to update these protocols. Please visit alaannualconf.org/safety for more information.
The Austin Convention Center has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, the gold standard for prepared facilities. Under the guidance of GBAC — a division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association — the Austin Convention Center has implemented the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention for the facility. Will sponsors/exhibitors be transferred to the new 2021 Annual Conference & Expo dates?
Any existing sponsorship/exhibition commitments from the 2020 Annual Conference & Expo that were not canceled will automatically be transferred to the new 2021 Annual Conference & Expo dates and location. A member of our sponsorship team will be in touch soon with floor plan updates, venue details, promotional opportunities and other important information.
However, any canceled/refunded 2020 agreements will not be transferred. Please contact us to discuss opportunities for the 2021 Annual Conference & Expo in Austin, Texas.
