Welcome Letter

“Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them,
and it will change your life.”
– Amy Poehler

We've designed this year’s Chapter Leadership Institute (CLI) to better leverage the talents and skills of our association’s leaders, and to enhance the leadership experience you will have as you begin or continue leadership in your chapter. We hope that you walk away from CLI with new ideas, insights and tools that will serve you well in ALA, your career and even personally.

I encourage chapters to send as many representatives as possible. We have heard from so many members that they are excited about “Elevating ALA,” and the best way to elevate your chapters is by attending CLI. Detailed information regarding ALA member resources, new initiatives and ALA’s leadership structure will be shared throughout the weekend. You'll also learn how to be an effective chapter leader and meet colleagues from many other chapters. We have added new experiences this year, including:

  • BOLD Bites, Chapter Edition — mini-presentations highlighting new, successful programs implemented by some of our chapters
  • Design Labs — workshops during which you will work with other chapter leaders to create new solutions to existing challenges
  • CLI Connect! — an opportunity for new attendees and those attending without other members from their chapters to engage with ALA leadership and each other
  • Town Hall with the ALA Executive Committee
We all believe in elevating the legal management profession. We have happily given our time and expertise to an Association that has not only helped us grow professionally, but has also enabled us to further elevate our lives by making lifelong friendships. For many of us, our volunteer roles within our chapters have made us stronger leaders within our law firms, too.

We are here to get to know each other better, to welcome new faces to their volunteer roles and to learn from veteran leaders. We are here to better understand how our chapters can help the Association grow and expand its outreach. We’re here to share ideas of how we can better work with business partners, other legal organizations and to understand how the ALA staff can help support all of these efforts. Most importantly, we’re here to elevate each other as we work to make the Association’s goals into reality.

We hope you enjoy what we have planned for you!
