PURPOSE

The Professional Development Advisory Committee’s (PDAC) purpose in providing you this communication is to further its goal of periodically sharing topical information regarding the legal industry. Our hope is that one or more of the updates will provide a spark of insight to assist with your work on behalf of ALA as well as within your firm or legal department.

This change in law is major, but how it impacts the legal field directly are yet to be determined. There is no doubt though that lawyers and firms working in the space of technology, software and IP will feel the full effects over the course of the next couple of years.

Just an FYI, resources such as LinkedIn Salary may make us think twice about how all firms and ALA itself is sourcing salary information in the future. It may take several years for this to grasp hold and be of great value, but it’s a very real possibility.

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAN BOOST HR ANALYTICS, BUT BUYER BEWARE"

Artificial intelligence is all the rage these days.  We see this term used in many different contexts across different platforms and AI data analytics are being touted as a way to analyze your data to make decisions. But it is imperative to ensure first your culture is ready for data analytics and you have the right team members in place to analyze and summarize the data. More importantly you need to ensure that any new vendor you bring on board has the ability to actually provide the data you are looking for.
