Gain information on the essential areas of recruiting, selecting and promoting law firm personnel through facilitated discussions and on-demand learning that includes case studies, lectures, readings and assessments. In 2020 new laws were implemented, including whether or not to ask about a candidates salary history, beefed up rules on anti-harassment training in California, and new contribution limits on retirement programs.
Topics include U.S. Federal Employment Laws, Employee Benefit Laws, Workers’ Compensation, Anti-Harassment Policy, Qualified Retirement Plans and 401K/Investment Policies. The following is an outline of the topics:
- Week 1: Hiring Procedures
- Week 2: Employment Laws
- Week 3: Employee Benefit Laws
- Week 4: Benefits & Claims
- Week 5: Harassment
- Week 6: Investments
The live Zoom lessons will be held on Thursdays from 12-1 p.m. Central Time.
These lessons will also be recorded for on-demand access.

CLM Credits
Meet minimum course requirements and earn 6 hours of CLM credit. This can take the following forms.

- CLM Recertification: Human Resources Management
Continuing Education Credits
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)The Association of Legal Administrators is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification activities. This program has been approved for 6 PDCs.
HR Certification Institute (HRCI)
The HR 1 Course has been pre-approved for 6 hours of recertification credits toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute. For more information about certification or recertification, please visit the HR Certification Institute website at www.hrci.org. The use of this seal is not an endorsement by the HR Certification Institute of the quality of the activity. It means that this activity has met the HR Certification Institute’s criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit. -
Course Requirements
Each course has a start and end date. To receive the course completion certificate and CLM, SHRM and HRCI credits, all weekly assignments must be completed and quizzes passed with a score of 70% or higher by the last day of the course. -
Registration
HR 1 will be offered from August 17 to September 21, 2023, with registration closing on August 11, 2023.

- After registration but prior to 50% penalty date: $125 fee
- Four weeks before start of the course: 50% of fee paid
- Two weeks before the start of the course and thereafter: No refund
