Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help

  • Aug 31
Dear fellow ALA members,

We've all been heartbroken over the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, and our thoughts and prayers go out to our members, business partners, families and friends affected by this catastrophe. The impacts of this storm will last long after the rains end and the flooding recedes.

One of the hallmarks of ALA is our strong community and the tremendous compassion our members have for others. As evidence of that, many ALA chapters have accepted the Boston Chapter's challenge to donate $5 for each chapter member to the American Red Cross to help the victims of Harvey. To date, the chapters have raised more than $19,000 in just a few hours.

In addition, the New Orleans and Austin Chapters have created GoFundMe pages to solicit donations to help those impacted by the storm. If you'd like to contribute, we've included links to the GoFundMe pages (New Orleans and Austin), as well as other relief efforts.

On behalf of all of our members, ALA is donating $3,500 to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to help victims. To all who have contributed, thank you for your generosity.

And to our friends in Texas and Louisiana, know that your ALA family is with you during these challenging times.

Sincerely,

The 2017-18 ALA Board of Directors and Headquarters Staff
