ALA-BP Listserv

ALA’s ALA-BP Listserv is a convenient e-mail forum for sharing information, exchanging ideas and discussing matters of general interest to chapter business partner relations chairs.

The ALA-BP Listserv described here operates through your email system and is not a part of the website. Listservs are comprised of individuals who have requested and been granted access to ongoing email exchanges that are generally on a common-interest topic (in this case, chapter business partner relations). A message posted by a list participant goes to the entire group as well as responses to that message.

Here are some important details about the ALA-BP Listserv, including how to subscribe and unsubscribe yourself. Please bookmark this page for easy reference!

Restricted Access. The ALA-BP list is a "closed list," which means that no one but subscribed members, the business partners currently serving on the ALA Business Partner Relations Project Team and list managers (ALA staff members) can see or post messages here. Nonetheless, the absolute confidentiality of messages posted here cannot be guaranteed.

ALA staff will regularly scan the list of subscribers and automatically delete anyone who is unauthorized to participate on this list.

How to Subscribe. You can subscribe to the list by going to the ALA-BP List subscription page and entering your name, email address and then clicking on the "Subscribe button. You will soon receive a response asking you to confirm your intent to subscribe. To do so, simply click on the link within the message. A message will then be sent to the list owners to approve your request.  Once approved, you will receive an email welcoming you to the list with useful information on how to use the list via email or the web interface.

How to Send Messages. To send a message to the entire list, address an email to [email protected]. Your message will be distributed to every subscriber to the list. Be sure to provide a meaningful description of your topic in the “subject” line.

How to Unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe to the list by going to the ALA-BP List Homepage and clicking on the "Subscribe or Unsubscribe" link on the right. You will soon receive a response asking you to confirm your intent to unsubscribe. To do so, simply click on the “reply” button and you will be unsubscribed from the list.

If Your Email Address Changes. If your email address changes in any way (including a simple change in syntax), you will no longer receive or be able to post messages in this list without resubscribing from your new email address. If you have difficulties or questions about this or related access issues, please contact ALA's webmaster.

Where to Report Problems. Questions or problems of a technical nature should be directed to ALA's webmaster. Questions relating to list topics and related matters should be directed to ALA.

Web Interface. All ALA Listservs have a Web Interface that will allow you to access the list archives and easily manage your list preferences (such as switching to the weekly digest version).

To set up your account:

  • Go to the ALA Listserv Homepage
  • Enter your email address and the password that you would like to use.
  • You will receive an email message from [email protected] with a confirmation link. Clicking on it will bring up a webpage confirming your account.
  • On the same confirmation page click on the Log In link in the top right corner of the page. Enter your email address and password to access your customized Web page.

You can now access your account page anytime by going to the ALA-BP List Homepage.

Digests. With a digest subscription, you receive larger messages every Friday rather than individual messages as they are sent. These digests are collections of individual list postings throughout the week. Choosing the digest version is a good alternative for those trying to limit the number of emails received from the list.

  • Log into your account and click on the Subscribers Corner link in the top left of the page.
  • Click on the [Settings] link next to the list that you would like to get the digest for.
  • Select the button next to the digest version that corresponds to your mail client. Most users will either want the Digest (traditional) which is a text-only version or Digest (HTML format) which is a formatted HTML digest.

Archives. ALA-BP threads are now archived. You can view these archives through the Web Interface.

  • Log into your account and click on the Listservs link in the top left of the page.
  • Select the list name that you would like to view archives for.

List Guidelines. ALA wants to protect the rights of all list users, to comply with copyright and other regulations, and to prevent violations of the law. Therefore, by participating in the list you agree to abide by the following guidelines and agree to the disclaimer appearing at the end of this page.
