Update from the Foundation of ALA

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) is pleased to announce two new initiatives in 2013.

The first is the Susan French Emerging Leader Scholarship Fund, established by GLJ Benefit Consultants. This scholarship has been established in recognition of former ALA President Susan French's commitment to professionalism, dedication to the advancement of law firm administration, development of future leaders and record of long-term service to ALA. The scholarship fund will assist ALA members who want to develop their leadership skills through ALA's educational offerings, such as the Chapter Leadership Institute.

The second initiative is with the Legal Services Corporation. The Foundation will offer paid Association dues (for 1-2 years) to those working in legal management positions in non-profit organizations that provide legal services to the working poor. This will provide a segment of our profession — those who serve the working poor and do not have funds to cover ALA membership — with the valuable resources, networking and education they need to enhance their professional development. The project also provides our members, whether chapter members or independent members, the opportunity to participate in Pro Bono activities similar to those in which attorneys volunteer.

More details on both of these initiatives is available on the Foundation's web page. You can also contact any of the Trustees of the Foundation.
