Update from the BPRC/BPAP
The Business Partner Relations Committee (BPRC) consists of seven ALA members, and the Business Partner Advisory Panel (BPAP) consists of six business partners and two ALA members who are also part of the BPRC. Recently, the two groups combined as one and are now the BPRC/BPAP. Both groups have worked together on initiatives, such as Making Connections, and they have presented panel discussions during ALA conferences, provided "buddies" for the exhibitors on the hall floor and helped update Legal Marketplace. Now the combined committee meets monthly to discuss initiatives as a whole and to continue to strategize about how to connect members and business partners.
Here are some current BPRC/BPAP initiatives:
- Reconnecting personally with each of the business partners who participated in the Annual Conference in National Harbor, Maryland to follow up on successes or issues they might have experienced during the Conference. The committee has received very positive feedback to date.
- Business Matters Sessions have become a conference staple, so the committee is looking at ways to bring those sessions to members who either were unable to attend the conference or had a time conflict during the conference.
- Reviewing business partners' information in Legal Marketplace and simplifying the key words in each profile so that members have an easier time locating the right service industry. The committee is taking on a grass roots effort to educate members and business partners about the value of Legal Marketplace and actively promote it at the conferences. This summer, a contest for members called iSpy is taking place with the goal to help familiarize members with Legal Marketplace. Questions will be posted in each issue of Your ALA News and will direct members to find the answer in Legal Marketplace. All members who answer the question correctly will be entered into a random drawing to win an iPad mini.
Business partner focus groups took place at the Annual Conference and will continue to happen at Regional Conferences. The committee is looking at ways to implement the ideas provided from these, such as streamlining a way for business partners to connect with members through pre-conference sharing and during-conference appointment setting. Stay tuned for more information!
The committee will work on ways to promote and educate members and business partners about the value of the VIP (Value in Partnership) program, about the value of customization by working closely with the ALA headquarters team, as well as assist in all on-site conference activities as available.
The committee members are excited to take on these challenges and be open to the many opportunities that are ahead for ALA members and business partners. Please reach out to the members of the committee with your ideas, suggestions and comments.
