ALA's Corporate/Government Fall Forum is the only educational event devoted to the corporate and government fields of legal administrator expertise. Concentrating on emerging trends, the Fall Forum is intended to provide in-depth analysis of hot areas specific to the needs of administrators in this field. This event will not be conducted in 2009. 2008 Conference Summary
The 2008 Corporate/Government Fall Forum, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Buckhead, Atlanta, GA. on September 17-19, 2008, brought together corporate, government, and nonprofit law department administrators for three days of outstanding education.

The Wednesday session on September 17, 2008 opened with a welcome from ALA C/G Planning Committee Chair, Joe Schellenberg. For the first educational afternoon session, Gene Crumley, Vice Chair for Business, Engineering, and Enterprise at the University of California, Davis, presented "The Leader's Edge: Building Performance by Building Trust." The session generated great ideas and fresh thinking.
The afternoon sessions resumed with "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Join the Dream Team" with speaker Linda Brughelli, Special Advisor for the Attorney General's Office Division of Administrative Support, and Chairperson for the California Department of Justice Statewide Green Committee. Adriana Linares and Jeremy Schaper presented "Top Technology Tips & Trends." Linares, President of LawTech Partners, is a legal technology trainer, and Schaper is founder and Principal at BlueStar Computer Solutions, Inc. (BSC) with almost a decade of legal industry software training and instructional design experience. Wednesday evening wrapped up with a Welcome & Sponsor Appreciation Reception.
Thursday morning's educational sessions began with "Outstanding Leadership" presented by Trish Jones, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Ed Carreras, Of Counsel to Woodcock Washburn LLP, and former Chief Intellectual Property Counsel of the Coca-Cola Company, was the speaker for "How to Motivate Attorneys to Focus on Measurable Results."
Wendy Rice-Isaacs, ALA President and Regional Administrative Director of Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease LLP, provided an overview of ALA's current and future plans during the Thursday lunch.
The afternoon educational sessions continued with "The Key to Successful Internal Investigations" presented by Ed McDonough, CPP, Director of Global Security for Tyco International, followed by two Idea Exchange sessions.
Friday, September 19, Michael Arkfeld, Esq., spoke to "The Deadly Sins of E-Discovery." This session was followed by the concluding session: "Developing Employees (and Yourself) from a Strength-Based Model," from Joe O'Brien, Ed.D., President and Founder of Above and Beyond, a talent management and development firm specializing in individual and organizational coaching.
