Corporate/Government Fall Forum
September 17-19, 2008
Grand Hyatt Atlanta
Buckhead, Georgia

Summary

The 2007 Corporate/Government Fall Forum, held at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. on October 10-12, 2007, brought together almost 50 corporate, government and nonprofit law department administrators for three days of outstanding education.

The Wednesday session on October 10, 2007 opened with a welcome from ALA C/G Planning Committee Co-Chairs, Nancy A. Bridges and Deborah R. Meuwissen. For the first educational afternoon session, Jonathan P. (Jay) Boros presented “Brainstorming: Synergy in Action.” Boros is Director of Corporate Legal for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. The session generated great ideas and fresh thinking. Next was a Corporate/Government Idea Exchange which allowed attendees to discuss issues pertinent to both corporate and government administrators. Wednesday evening wrapped up with a Welcome & Sponsor Appreciation Reception.

Thursday morning’s educational sessions were “The Three P’s of E-Discovery—Planning, Policies & Procedure” and “3 Meetings/30 Days—A Matter Management Approach.” After lunch, John Michalik, Executive Director of ALA, provided an overview of ALA’s current and future plans, including goals and objectives of the association.

Thursday afternoon concluded with “Knowledge Management—Planning Today for Tomorrow” and “The New Model for Law Firm Performance Management.” Many attendees took advantage of the “Washington by Night” Tour and enjoyed Washington D.C.’s most famous attractions and monuments illuminated by floodlights.

On Friday, the final day of the Fall Forum, Michael Nash of Nash Consulting Inc. presented “Creating Trust and Respect in the Workplace.” The interactive workshop explored the four spectrums of human behavior and how behavior styles can increase trust, respect and morale in the workplace. The final session was “Using Behavior Styles to Build Workplace Morale,” and was, again, conducted by Michael Nash.
