Internal Controls: Does Your Firm Have Any?

November 19, 2008

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pacific  |  12 noon - 2 p.m. Mountain  |  1 - 3 p.m. Central  |  2 - 4 p.m. Eastern

An employee embezzles thousands of dollars to pay for an online gambling problem; a bookkeeper embezzles to pay for a lavish vacation. Could this happen at your firm? Would you believe that internal fraud is more likely to be committed by a trusted employee, over 40 years old, who has been with the firm for more than 10 years? As internal fraud continues to grow, it’s crucial to have necessary programs to deter and detect internal fraud. The speakers will address the unique issues managers of small and medium-sized firms face when it comes to setting up effective internal controls. After participating in this session, you should be able to:

  • Identify and implement simple steps to create a comprehensive approach from hiring, segregating duties, auditing, etc., to minimize your firm’s exposure to these devastating events
  • Create controls and related policies to reduce, if not eliminate, the potential for fraud
