You don’t have to be a lawyer to need good communication/presentation skills. At any time you could be asked to speak at a conference, contribute in a staff meeting, make an announcement at an ALA function or participate in a client meeting. In this lighthearted but practical Webinar session the speakers will focus on two things: 1) letting go of limiting beliefs about public speaking so you can embrace a fresh, new approach to expressing yourself in front of groups, and 2) applying simple but powerful tools that you can whip out on a moment’s notice to craft your message clearly. Through innovative participation methods (even by Webinar!), stories and vivid illustrations you'll walk away with a new, positive perspective on speaking before groups that will open exciting possibilities for your professional and personal life. In “An ALA Toolbox” you'll learn:
- What Speech 101, Toastmasters and your 5th grade book report presentation all had in common. (It's not good.)
- The secret to establishing trust and rapport with any audience while also increasing your confidence.
- How the pursuit of “polish” can actually inhibit your ability to inspire listeners.
- Why focusing on content and delivery (the traditional approach) won't overcome the biggest obstacle to speaking confidence.
- How to lose a lifetime of stage fright and find your true persuasive power.
- How to apply the Fire Alarm Point method to quickly and succinctly get your point across when you have little time to prepare.
- How to get your remarks off to a good start with simple yet powerful introduction formats.
