Mastering Time (Time Management)

May 21, 2008

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Pacific  |  12 noon - 2 p.m. Mountain  |  1 - 3 p.m. Central  |  2 - 4 p.m. Eastern

Where do you start to get a handle on your daily life so that you can be prepared for the big issues? For many of us, our days in the office can quickly become out of control: a secretary calls in sick in the middle of a trial; a paralegal quits to move to another firm; a natural disaster disrupts the entire firm. Join this Webinar to get a step-by-step approach to getting organized. Meg Spencer Dixon’s strength comes from her own experience as a law firm associate, one of many new lawyers who worked long hours and weekends to try to stay on top of assignments. Dixon presents some of the time-honored management tools as they relate to legal practice. Attendees to this program should be able to:

  • Craft your own goals — for work, and, perhaps more importantly, for life
  • Apply those goals and use them as a blueprint for organizing your time
  • Keep your desk clutter-free, and effectively manage telephone and e-mail messages
  • Efficiently manage multiple tasks and projects

    Speaker:

Margaret Spencer Dixon, attorney and founder of the DC area-based time management consulting firm, Spencer Consulting, featured in the ABA-CLE audio programs So Little Time, So Much Paper and The Palm® Approach to So Little Time, So Much Paper. Ms. Dixon came to the field of organization and time management by way of a career in law, during which she practiced in the litigation and energy groups of Shaw Pittman in Washington, D.C. In 1992, she left the practice of law to found Spencer Consulting, and since then has been giving speeches, writing articles, and conducting seminars on many aspects of time management and related subjects such as procrastination, stress management, how to run effective meetings and techniques for getting the most out of a Palm handheld computer. She has presented seminars for numerous law firms, CLE providers, government agencies, Harvard Law School, and organizations such as the Women's Bar Association, the National Law Firm Marketing Association, and the District of Columbia Bar.

This Webinar qualifies towards two hours of Time Management Strategies for those seeking to fulfill the initial CLM application general requirements and toward Recertification in the category of Communications and General Management (GM).

At the speaker's request, there will not be an audio recording made available for this program.
