Highlights from the ALA Conference Scene
Washington State Convention & Trade Center
Seattle, Washington
Wednesday, May 7, 2008
ALA's 37th Annual Educational Conference and Exposition was
quite busy on Wednesday. The day kicked off with the David W. Brezina Memorial
General Session, which featured a dynamic presentation by Egil "Bud" Krogh, a
formerly notorious representative of U.S. President Richard Nixon's administration.
Krogh, now an author and practicing lawyer in Seattle, engaged a rapt audience with
his discussion of the ethical challenges of leadership. Afterward, many attendees lined
up at the ALA Bookstore to get Krogh to sign a copy of his book, "INTEGRITY: Good
People, Bad Choices and Life Lessons from the White House."
Later, the ALA Silent Auction closed with a flurry of last-minute bids on a variety of
unique items, including artwork, pottery, and sports memorabilia. Auction proceeds totaled
$25,722 (a record high amount!), and the money will benefit the Foundation of the
Association of Legal Administrators (FALA).
