Taking the Exam

What to Expect

Examination Centers
ALA holds CLM exams twice a year: once in the spring at ALA’s Annual Conference, and at various locations on the same day in the fall.

After your application has been accepted, the specific address of the test location you’ve chosen will be emailed to you approximately 6 weeks before the examination date in the confirmation information sent to eligible applicants.

What to Expect on the Day of the Exam
Examinees need to report to the test site 30 minutes before the start of the exam. You are asked to sign in and present photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport.  You will also be asked to sign a Confidentiality Statement stating you agree not to disclose or discuss the contents of the exam.

You will have four hours to take the exam, during which the only breaks that are allowed are bathroom breaks, one person at a time. No food or drink is allowed to be brought into the test site.
