What is a Job Seeker account and how do I create one?

Prior to posting a résumé, job seekers are asked to create an account. Along with providing you a way to maintain your privacy by way of a username and password, this process allows you to return to your account and update information as needed. Individuals are allowed to have an account both as a job seeker and an employer as long as they use two different e-mail addresses.

How do I post my résumé?

Job seekers can submit a résumé by completing the résumé form. When posting a résumé, you will be required to provide certain pieces of information (e.g. position type, résumé headline, etc.). The remainder of the text is written by you - the job seeker - in 7,500 characters or less. (ALA reserves the right to condense résumés if the specified word count is exceeded.) To facilitate searches by prospective employers, your résumé will be formatted to begin with contact information (unless you choose to use our blind box service, in which case the appropriate information will be entered), position type, and location.

How long will my résumé appear on the website?

Résumés will run on the website for four consecutive weeks from the day they are uploaded. Our system will automatically purge résumés upon expiration. If you would like to renew your posting, you will be required to complete the résumé form to submit your résumé for an additional four weeks.

What is the deadline for posting my résumé?

The résumé database is updated on a regular basis.

Is there a fee for posting my résumé?

Current ALA members may post a résumé free of charge. Non-members pay a fee of $100. Additional fees will apply if blind box services are used.

Do you offer a service to keep my identity confidential?

Job seekers who desire anonymity may purchase blind box services. Electronic replies will be routed to you through ALA's network so that your anonymity is maintained.

There is no fee for ALA members to utilize the blind box service. Non-members will be charged $75.

Will I be able to see my résumé before it is uploaded to the website?

During the posting process you will have the opportunity to view your résumé as potential employers will view it. If at that time you decide changes are needed you can edit your résumé.

Do you have any sample résumés that I can review?

To view a sample résumé click here.

Who will be able to view my résumé?

Any individual who has purchased access can view your résumé.

For what types of positions does ALA accept résumés?

ALA will accept résumés for legal administrator, functional specialist, and legal support staff positions including but not limited to law clerks, paralegals/legal assistants, legal secretaries and other non-lawyer support staff positions. ALA is currently not accepting résumés for lawyer positions, or for management positions in service industries and retail settings.

Why are there not more employer ads for my location and/or position type?

ALA has no control over the number or type of ads posted in a specific location.

How do I search the current employer ads?

Employer ads can be found by using the job search. Here you will be able to search the employer ads by location, position type, and/or keyword.

What type of involvement does ALA have in my search?

ALA acts only as a clearinghouse and not as an employment agency. We do not enter into salary negotiations or mediate disputes that may arise.

How do I sign up for the Career Connection newsletter?

To register to receive the weekly job newsletter you will need to log in to your job bank account and select the option to receive the newsletter in the account center.
