What is an employer account and how do I create one?

Prior to posting a job, advertisers are asked to create an account. Along with providing you a way to maintain your privacy by way of a username and password, this process allows you to return to your account and update information as needed. Individuals are allowed to have an account both as a job seeker and an employer as long as they use two different e-mail addresses.

How do I post an ad?

Ad text for available positions is written by you - the advertiser - in 5,000 characters or less. (ALA reserves the right to condense ads if the specified word count is exceeded.) In order to facilitate searches by prospective candidates, your ad will be formatted to begin with selected information prior to being uploaded.

How long will my ad appear on your website?

Ads will run on the website for four consecutive weeks from the day they are uploaded. If you would like to renew your ad for an additional four weeks, please contact ALA Headquarters at 847.267.1252 at least 2 business days prior to the expiration of your ad.

What is the charge for posting an ad?

Organizations that employ a current ALA member will be charged $175 for posting an ad. Nonmember organizations will be charged $225. These same fees apply if an ad is renewed. Additional fees apply if the blind box service is used.

Do you offer a service in which my firm's identity will remain confidential?

Organizations who desire anonymity may purchase blind box services. Electronic replies will be routed to you through ALA's network so that your anonymity is maintained.

ALA members will be charged $50 (one-time fee per ad posting) for blind box services; non-members will be charged $75.

What is a job advertising package and how can I purchase it?

If you plan on posting multiple jobs over the next 12 months, you can save money by purchasing a job advertising package. The package allows you to purchase enough credits for five ads at the price of four. All job credits must be used within 12 months from the date of purchase. Refunds will not be issued for unused credits. Log in to your job bank account to purchase a package.

What is the deadline for posting an ad?

The job bank is updated on a regular basis. New ads paid for by credit card will be uploaded to the website immediately. Ads paid for by check will be uploaded upon receipt of payment. (Usually within 10 business days)

Will I be able to review the ad before it is uploaded to the website?

You will have the opportunity to view your ad during the posting process. If at that time you decide changes are needed you can edit your ad.

Do you have any sample ads that I can review?

ALA does not keep a collection of sample ads. However, to give you an idea of what other organizations are doing you can view the current employer ads.

For what types of positions will ALA accept ads?

ALA will accept ads for legal administrator, functional specialist, and legal support staff positions including but not limited to law clerks, paralegals/legal assistants, legal secretaries and other non-lawyer support staff positions. ALA is currently not accepting ads for lawyers, or for management positions in service industries and retail settings.

Is there a fee for searching the résumé database?

If your organization is currently running an ad on ALA's Job bank or employs a current ALA member, there is no charge. Otherwise, please reference our listing of Job Bank Fees.

How do I search the résumé database?

The résumé database can be found by logging into the Job Bank Account Center.

What type of involvement does ALA have in my search?

ALA acts only as a clearinghouse and not as an employment agency. We do not enter into salary negotiations or mediate disputes that may arise.
