ALA CHOSEN AS HOST SITE FOR THE 2018 GLOBAL LEGAL HACKATHON

  • Feb 1

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of the U.S. host sites for the 2018 Global Legal Hackathon taking place, February 23-25. This event will engage law schools, law firms and in-house departments, legal technology companies, governments and legal industry service providers from across the globe to collaborate in the rapid development of solutions to improve the legal industry, worldwide.

As a host, ALA’s headquarters will serve as an incubator for legal industry thought leaders developing technologies, software and development tools to advance the business of law. These solutions can be ones that help improve the business and practice of law (private benefit) or ones that support good government initiatives, legal systems or access to justice.

In addition to hosting, ALA will field a Global Legal Hackathon team of legal management practitioners, technology experts, legal entrepreneurs and others looking to make a difference. ALA’s team is open for legal professionals to join and interested individuals can contact [email protected], by February 16 at 5 p.m. Central Standard Time for more information.

ALA’s plan is to focus its hackathon efforts on developing practical applications, tools and resources leveraging the Uniform Process Based Management System (UPBMS). The UPBMS is ALA’s comprehensive system of codes — a taxonomy — that encompasses the wide variety of processes needed to support the practice of law.

“We believe the code set provides a resource for a wide range of applications, including process improvement initiatives, organizational alignment, matter management and budgeting, among others. While we are continuing to refine the code set, we are also looking to create specific applications and toolkits to help the industry adopt and implement the code set. The hackathon gives us an ideal opportunity to create those resources,” says ALA Executive Director, Oliver Yandle, JD, CAE.
