Community Connection
ALA is pleased to announce a new name for its popular community service program. Beginning in 2012, Community Challenge Weekend will now be known as Community Connection. Although the name is changing, the mission remains the same: to encourage ALA chapters, its members, firms, vendors, relatives and friends to come together to contribute time, energy and resources toward improving their own communities.
ALA recognizes that many chapters conduct community service efforts at various times throughout the year. Therefore, limiting our chapters to hold their project on a designated weekend or in a specific month was no longer practical. With this change, chapters now have the flexibility to hold their effort(s) when they choose to do so.
Regardless of when you conduct your project, ALA would like to know what your chapter accomplished. So whether you held a single event, or you participated in several throughout the year, we ask that you submit a summary of your efforts.
The deadline for 2012 events: December 17, 2012
Those chapters who meet these deadlines will receive points toward the Presidents' Awards of Excellence. Submission of pictures is optional, but encouraged.
You may e-mail ALA’s marketing department

Greater Los Angeles
The Greater Los Angeles Chapter partnered with HomeAid LA/Ventura with their annual fundraiser, Project Playhouse, which raises money to build and renovate shelters and safe houses for battered women and children, and many others in need.
Chapter members and vendors, along with their firms, family and friends disseminated information in order to raise awareness of Project Playhouse and the Greater LA's CCW program, volunteered at the two Playhouse Villages in 3 and 4 hour weekend shifts; solicited and contributed monetary donations; sold and purchased raffle tickets and auction party tickets; solicited, collected and donated silent auction items sold during the Auction Party; and volunteered at the Auction Party.
