The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement

Once again, ALA is proud to feature the ALA Publication Awards as part of the nationally recognized
Burton Awards program. In 2013, the Burton
Awards will celebrate its fourteenth year as it continues its prominent association with the Library
of Congress. This year, Tony, Emmy and Grammy nominee Vanessa Williams will perform at the gala.

Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is one of the most celebrated and distinguished libraries in the world. This prominent institution was established by an act of
Congress in 1800 and since that time has grown to become one of the largest repositories of books, manuscripts, and legal materials ever collected. The Library
of Congress functions as both a national library and as the research arm of the United States Congress. It contains more than 32 million catalogued books and 62
million manuscripts.
The Burton Foundation
The Burton Foundation is a nonprofit, cultural and academic organization devoted to further promoting the stature of the legal profession. The founder of the
Burton Awards for Legal Achievement and Co-Founder of the Holmes Debates is William C. Burton, a partner in the law firm Sagat Burton LLP. He is a former New York
State Assistant Attorney General and the author of the authoritative reference book, Burton's Legal Thesaurus, (McGraw-Hill).
